Advice for students
taking Writing III and IV
next year (2013-14)
In comments on this post, students who have taken part in Writing IV, section 1C, are to provide advice based on their experience this year, for the benefit of their successors next year. The presentation below outlines the short essay writing task calling for the former to prepare, compose, and post their advice for the latter.

When I was freshman, I took Writing Ⅰ-Ⅱ. This class was studied a lot of topic. And we studied alongside of textbook. I didn’t use computer this class. we read text and resolving problem. But Writing Ⅲ−Ⅳ used computer mainly. Don’t use pencil and textbook and eraser. Text was teacher’s screen. I did following my friends and teacher example. If you are not good at use computer, I recommend you practice using computer. Because I took some hard.But I learned to using computer and English conversation. Of course,we had to question in English, so I could study speaking too.
ReplyDeleteFirst semester, I did writing blog, and typing homework and read English book and wrote about that book . So, I had to write blog total 10000 words. I didn’t have topic everyday, so I went to shopping and wrote today’s episode. Mainly,“I woke up at~. And today’s lunch was~. I went to downtown~” and so on. I used to up graphic of my favorite things. It was easy to writing. And Typing homework can writing favorite things, I could wrote it easily. Book review was most difficult for me. Because it had to read book, and writing that book’s review. I was not good at read English book. So I recommend you read book while using dictionary.
Second semester, I did writing blog and Book review and typing homework and writing long essay. Especially, long essay was most difficult for me. I wrote a lot of topic. My favorite place and introduction of my school. It was so hard. But I could write blog with my friends. And making map is hard too. So I used my brain. It was so hard. I tried up to picture on blog this semester. When it up to picture on blog,I could wrote blog longer that longer.
I took this class, I thought my writing skill and speaking skill was up certainly.So I was very happy.
I think writing I and II were learning how to write English. Use textbooks and then learn grammar and words. It was easy if you knew a lot of words. And you do not use computer so you can do anytimes if you have a pencil and paper. However Writing III and IV are not so easy to get credit.
ReplyDeleteBecause you have to do a lot of things more than Freshman year. And start using compute a lot. If you do not know how to use it very much, you should learned ask teacher. It is very important things to ask people but if you do not care about it and do not ask it can be bad for you. Because you have to start write blog in English of course use computer a lot.
I did not know computer so I was very tired.
So I am going to talk about Writing III advice. Writing III 1st you have to read 15 books, 2nd you have to write 10 typing homework and 3rd you have to write 10000 words of blog. It was very tired and hard. Because you need computer all the time. So you should go library or 14 building everyday. And each month you have to write essay. about 300 words essay. It has dadeline all the time so you have to be careful. And also you have to be careful about Portfolio. Each month last day of month you have to write Portfolio. It is about how many words did you write, how many comment did you get like that. Sometimes I forgot to write it then I went to library soon. About book review I want to say do not forget write reference about books. It is very important things so. And you should write blog during spring semester.
And then next I am going to talk about Writing IV advice.
Writing IV you have to do more than last semester. 1st you have to read 18 books, 2nd you have to write 15 typing homework and you have to write 15000 words of blog during 2nd semester. And also essay you have to write more than last semester. Each essay you have to write 5oo words. Sometimes you have to write essay with your friends. Write about movie. we wrote 900 words essay twice. It was very hard. You can start write blog during summer vacation. And also you have winter vacation you can write a lot. I did not do a lot so then I did harder than everyone, it was bad so do not do that like that things.
Then you should write blog a lot during break and you should remember what is happend, who stay with, Where did you go and What did you do. You can do it, DO your best! I wish you can get both credit.
I think Writing 3-4 are very big difference from writing 1-2 because I should do a lot of homework, for example book reviews, typing homework and essays. Writing 1-2 has a little home-works. It is very easier than Writing 3-4. Also, I had a big change. It was to use a computer in class. I usually do home-works with computer. If the students don’t use a computer, you doesn’t do activity. I think listening skill is very important in 2nd year’s writing class. In Writing1-2, I read prints and textbook but I had to listen to teachers explanations carefully.
ReplyDeleteWriting2 is more difficult than 1st year’s one. I suggest that students take in Writing3 next year to do homework everyday. Every week, we get new home works. If they don’t do it and let it pile up, they will work very hard at the end of each semester. I recommend them to do it little by little. They should write 10000 word on their blog. It is hard to think topics so they had better to record the event for example trip, club activity, their part time job and etc. If they have topics, they should only translate.
Writing 4 is the most difficult class of all writing class because I should write 15000 words by end of the 2nd semester. 2nd semester had Takuma Festival, winter vacation, and new year’s holiday so I was very busy. And I had 18 book reviews, 15 typing home-works and long essay.
I recommend students take in Writing4 next year to write blog and do home-works since their summer vacation. The summer vacation has about 2month. If they do home-work, they will be able to finish all home-works.
I think Writing3-4 are most difficult class of all an undergraduate subject but I learned a lot of way to write English document, for example quotation, how to write essay’s introduction and closing.
I took lessons in Writing Ⅲ and writing Ⅳ. We gave lessons using the computer, and I mainly wrote a blog. I will advice you about them.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I will advice about Writing Ⅲ. In this lesson, I mainly wrote a blog about essay, book review, and everyday life. First, I wrote six essays. It is about introduce myself for host family, how to spent your campus life happily, makes your life exciting to spend in this university, and my language learning history. Next, I wrote three teen book reviews. I wrote the book’s summary, my impression about the book, and the book’s author on the blog.
Next, I will advice about writing Ⅳ. This semester, We gave many homework. First, last summer vacation, I did my homework about A, B, C, D, E essay. It is each about vacation plans, What classes I will take, How I study during the vacation , Good and Bad points about summer, something special I did during vacation. Second, my teacher gave us typing homework, "my favorite ●●". I wrote them for fifteen times, I introduce my favorite things. Next, I wrote many essay about my language learning story, my favorite places and movie review. We were taught how to make mind maps and slide show by my teacher. It was progress for us. And, I wrote many things about my life, my feeling, book review, and so on. I posted 15000 words on the blog.
We were given so many homework by my teacher. It is very hard. But I think that you certainly be able to have high English skill to finish this lesson. I hope do your best.
I will advice about WritingⅢ and WritingⅣ next year for students. You should write blog every day! One week needs about 1000 words. That is need for WritingⅢ and WritingⅣ. I can’t wrote blog every day, so I trouble writing blog. You don’t cut a class.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I will introduce about WritingⅢ. This semester has six essay. Their assay wrote about host family, introduce about KGU and My language learning story. I enjoyed thinking about essay. I was more interested in English when I wrote blog. But essay has a period. You need to be punctual.
Second, I will introduce about WritingⅣ. WritingⅣ is busier than WritingⅢ. I hard work for book review, movie review, writing about favorite things every week and mind map about movie actor. I think you don’t forget this homework. I need to make steady efforts.
Last, you don’t give up on the way. WritingⅢ and WritingⅣ gives you English proficiency.

ReplyDeleteI’ll write about advice for WritingⅢ and WritingⅣ. This class have many homework's. This home work is easy, but you must write many English for get a points. From now, I think write about this class what to do. You learned WritingⅠ and Ⅱ in 1st year. but Ⅲ and Ⅳis different class in 1st year. Because, you must make “My blog” for this class and must write on your blogs at your homework and free-writing. please write many homework. For example, “free-writing” this is a anything OK! Daily, My favorite season, car, event for high school etc... And “Book review” you must write about Books. You can lend books from the KGU library. and 1st semester you must write 15 books and 2nd semester must write 18 books.
At first, “Blog” You must make My blog in this class. Because, my blog is base in this class. You should many homework on your blog. And you must write about 10,000 words in 1st semester and 2nd semester is 15,000 words. this is very easy but very busy. You have to setting about your blog in first time. I wrote a in my blog about homework, book review, typing homework and my private. This blog is anything OK but you must over 10,000 words and 15,000 words. You need to finish early. If you don’t finish early, you must write in after the other people and can’t get points.
Next, “Typing homework” This homework is very easy and finish early. You must write about 15 topics. 1st semester beside theme, but 2nd semester is “My favorite...” this is anything OK. For, example, I wrote My favorite TV, movie star, car and event of the high school etc... This homework is I recommend finish early. Because, other homework is very trouble.
Next, “Book review” You read books and must write about the books. 1st semester is 15books and 2nd semester is 18books. This homework is you lend from KGU library. This homework is I recommend finish eary with “Typing homework” too.
I think this class is very busy. You have to many homework and blog. Oll homework’s is very trouble. but, I recommend finish early oll problems. Do your best!!
At first I thought that Writing Ⅲ is very difficult because I am not good at typing in English. Also I have not ever many English sentences. Also I am not good at to operation of computer. I did many things in this Writing lecture.
ReplyDeleteFor example I wrote about Book Review. I thought that it is very difficult for me to write it. I could not write only a little things at first but I could write many things whenever it follows a day.
Other I wrote many Typing Home work. I have to send to Mr. Tomei this subject. I can not typing more quickly so I were troubled in it.
I thought that to write Essay is very good experience. I could write many things. For example I wrote dear host family. I wrote it as Essay for the first time. I am not good at introduce my self so I could not good write at first but I got nice idea from my friends so I could write good Essay. Also I wrote about Kumamoto Gakuen University. I researched about many things to use a computer. I could write many English sentences so I were very pleasant then.
I learned many things about Writing Ⅳ lecture. I experiment many high technique at this lecture.
For example I used audio boo. I didn’t know about this how to use but my teacher taught me very gentle about it so I could do it.
Also I made slide show about my language learning history. At first I wrote Essay about it. Then I collected easy to read. I can not only word at this slide show. I can not sentences at this slide show so it is very difficult for me to do it.
I recommend for new Writing student many things. At first I should do early many things. Especially, I think that you should do Typing Home work early. Also I think that you should as possible as take part in this Writing lecture. Also I think that you should write Essay because it is very nice experience for you. You can write good English sentences to write Essay. I think that I want you to do until final. [372 words]
I forgot the works and exam about writing 3, but I remember I had thought this class, writing is not easy. I really suffer from computer. I am really not good at using computers. And I also not good at typing, so I passed so much time to type few words. I did not do Typing Home Work and Book Review early, so I had to do many after. I really regret this. I thought I had to do all works early and I was lazy, so I decided I will do home works early.
ReplyDeleteAt this term, writing 4, I really regret my act. I decided I will do home works early but I did not do it in this term. I did few Typing Home Work only. I did not do Book Reviews and post blogs. So I had to do many home works at last. I should have done all of home works early. When I did home works every week, I did not suffer from my home works.
I recommend you who take this class to do your home works early. If you do home works every week, you should post only blogs. You do not have to do Typing Home Work and Book Reviews. And I recommend you to post your blogs when you played with your friend, experienced something special and so on. So you do not have to post many blogs later. I think you will be able to convert words that you think to English immediately when you write that you usually experienced as a diary. This class will help your English growth. So I recommend you should join this class seriously. [280 words]
Advice re: Writing Ⅳ. We did write a blog, book reviews, movie reviews, typing homework and essay.
ReplyDeleteFirst, we should write 15000 words in blog and in English. Yours must write planned to. Otherwise, you are the latter part of the writing Ⅳ very tired. I had many words, so I was very busy.
Second, we should read many books in English. And, we should write about it in English. We should write 18 books. The books in KGU library. We borrow it in there. And we wrote movie reviews. We should movie reviews more 1000 words. This can do with your the team. Essay too. But there are times when one person shall write essay.
Typing homework, we write about us what favorite. First 5 typing, we write more 100 words. Next, more 120, 140, 150. Topic is random each time. It seem difficult, but this is your chance to increase the words. You write to your favorite. So, I could wrote many words. But time is 5 minute. So, you make out draft of a about your favorite. We finish typing homework, we should send g-mail to Mr. Beaufait.
I would recommend, all homework, you should do early.
First,I will write about WritingⅢ. Students can learn how to make blog in this class. Student have to do their homework by using a computer. I felt that it was so difficult because the teacher take place the class in English so students always listen to the teacher talking carefully. I learned how to write book review and blog in English. To my surprised, the homework was 10000 words in English. I was so worried about it. But after all, I could do it finally.Sometimes, you need watch another student’s blog and you have to comment. After that you never fail to return the comment as soon as possible. However, I didn’t return the comment at all. I rewrote after that. I was so hard homework in last month because I was negligent in my studies. Therefor you have to do your homework regularly.
ReplyDeleteNext, I will write about WritingⅣ. This class so look like WritingⅢ I thought. You have to your homework on your blog. That is to say, you have to continue to write on your blog in English from spring term. Student have to write English blog about 15000 words. It is so hard. Student need to write the blog more than spring term. It is so hard so students have to do their homework constantly. In this term, I wrote a lot of movie reviews. I could write a lot of words by watching various movies. This is my recommending way in order to add blog words more and more.
Finally, I could how to write movie review and book review and so on. I couldn’t write blog in English. However, I could write various documents by learning how to write from my English teacher. I wanted to correct my blog sometimes otherwise I could find out my mistakes. Book review gage me the opportunity to read English books. It was so useful for me.I thought that my writing ability must have increase a little.
First, we had to write blog in English many times while sophomore. We write 10,000 words in spring term, but we have to write 15,000 words in fall term. So I became very busy in fall than spring.

Mr. Beaufait instructed our to do homework. It is book reviews, movie reviews, essay and typing homework.
We had to write 18 book reviews at the minimum in fall term. So I often had to went to the library in KGU and borrow books in English. I didn’t read books in English so it was difficult to read it. So I think good you often go the library to read books in English while next this spring vacation.
To write 15,000 words isn’t easily. It is very busy every day. So I think you should plan to write blog. We could write from summer vacation. But I had never write once. I think I should write more. So you should write your memories for summer vacation!
Mr. Beaufait send our to G-mail. It was written about homework, deadline and so on. It is very important. You can’t know these if you check G-mail. So you should open G-mail and you check whether or not he send mail every day.
We had to write many words in essays. We wrote 1,000 words in movie reviews. I was so hard, but we could write in my blog so we could increase words. So you should write essay hard!
Also, you can spend easily the latter part of term if you finish typing homework. I think good you finish writing when you have free time.
You will be very hard to you get credit in Writing 4 class. But you can get it if you can do in earnest.
I think that Writing 1, 2 and Writing 3,4 is quite different as subjects. When I was 1st year student, I took Writing 1,2 as all of Eibei students do. At the time, I didn’t write any essay which was more than 800~900 words. In Writing 3 and 4, I needed to write such a long essay whole the year. I think the length of writing essay is the most different thing between Writing 1, 2 and Writing 3,4. When I entered Writing 3,4, I didn’t expect that and I didn’t think this subject became the hardest subject in this grade. I had to write my blog more than 10,000~15,000 words in a semester. It was so hard to do that because I put the assignment off until it became a due.
ReplyDeleteThat’s why, I strongly recommend you to do the assignment on time. In the first semester, you need to write 10,000 words blog including writing book reviews, writing essays, and doing typing homework. You must write a book review in a week. In my opinion, writing book reviews is the most troublesome assignment in Writing 3. Book reviews make you to read a book written in English, and write an impression of it. It needs around 100 words each book. And then, you have to post a picture of the book and the information of it. For example, the title, the author's name, the year it was published, the name of publisher, and the place the publisher located. Writing these information is so much troublesome. So, you should do it steadily, not at once. If you do the book review every week, you will not feel that writing 10,000 words blog is hard because you can count the words of book review for it.
In second semester, you will take Writing 4. What I recommend to you is the same to above. However, you should be careful because you have to write 5,000 more words than the first semester. So, you must write about your daily life much more than then even though you finish all the book review and all the typing homework. In my case, I didn’t reckon that I needed to write so much about myself to reach to 15,000 words. I regretted not to write my daily life so often. At the end, I had to write too many words and I had nothing special to write about. So, you should write every time something happened. Then, you will not have to hurry before the deadline come.
These three points are what you should remember when you took Writing 3,4. I hope that my advice is helpful to you and you can get the credit of this subject.

ReplyDeleteWriting ⅲ and Ⅳ have to write a blog. First semester write more than 10,000 words, and next semester write more than 15,000 words. Also we must read book which is written in English.
I always couldn’t come up with contents of blog, so writing blog is hard for me. But it is easy to write about yourself. For example, there are hobby, music, movie, job, memory and so on.
When you take Writing 3 class, you have to begin write book review and diary. But, don’t write the same contents as a friends or you may fail this unit. Book Review is hard work. Reading book and write about summary of book and your experience. I think when reading book, it is good imagine story in your mind.
Writing Ⅳ is starting on August. I wrote diary about summer vacation memories a lots. And I started book review on September. If you do book review on September, you can get points. Writing Ⅳ increase words, so harder than before semester. In order to write much words, I think I have to improve my vocaburally. Finally, writing blog makes me happy time.
Mr. Beaufait sent mail about essay, book review, and so on. And how to write essays. So you always check your mail box. If you can’t understand contents, you ask your classmate or assistant.
You will get Writing class unit !
I will teach about advice for repeaters and successors next year in writing Ⅲ and Ⅳ. I took the writing Ⅲ and Ⅳ for a year. And, I could take a credit in last semester. But, I don’t know whether I could take a credit in this semester. To tell the truth, I think it is so difficult to take the credits of writing3 and Ⅳ. I think writing Ⅳ is more difficult than Ⅲ. So, I will teach about advice for repeaters and successors next year.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I will teach about expectations. I think you can get opportunities and challenge for learning the writing. And, you can learn a lot of things about writing. But, I think you started the writing class, you may not be able to keep up with the writing class. So, you should not absent from the class, and not forget to do homework.
Next, I will teach about advice the writing Ⅲ. In last semester, I took the writing Ⅲ of C class. I think the writing Ⅲ is easier than Ⅳ. But, I think you must not too relax. You should do the classwork and homework perfectly. So, you should set about the classwork. And, you may start to blogging before the class starts. I think you aren’t in time for blogging after the class start. So, you should do blogging a little easier than usual.
And, I will teach about advice the writing Ⅳ. In this semester, I took the writing Ⅳ. I think writing Ⅳ is more difficult than Ⅲ. So, you should take part in the writing class positively. You may not in time for writing classwork. But, you never give up for the writing class.
Writing classes were so hard. But they were very good to me because I could get writing ability and I could get also reading ability because I had to review of a lot of books. I think it is important to use a computer. I was not good at using a computer so some of theme were difficult to me. But Mr. Beaufait and Mr. Tomei helped me. If you cannot using the computer and cannot understand, you don’t have to be nervous. Mr. B and Mr. T will help you.
ReplyDeleteThe Writing Ⅲ class was little easier than the Writing Ⅳ class because I had to write at least only 10000 words. However I had to write at least 15000 words in the Writing Ⅳ class. But it was fun to typing my favorite things on my blogs and reading my classmate’s blogs. And I went to Minnesota so I had to finish all earlier than other classmates. So it was so hard. I think it is better to write everyday little by little. I think it is important thing of Writing class. Writing class is hard.. But when I could finish all of themes, I could get acquire a sense of accomplishment.
You should write about something everyday or at least 4 times a week on your blog like a twitter or facebook! You must not be get lazy because you will be very hard in the last. When you could not understand you have to ask teachers as soon as possible! They are my advice to you. Do your best. If so you can get acquire a sense of accomplishment! These class make your good ability of English.

ReplyDeleteFirst, I think that blogging in these courses are good opportunity. To keep on a diary in English is good for their progress. It will be helpful for them to get better their writing skill. Also, the blogging is one of the biggest challenges to sophomores. After getting through the challenge, they will have more confidence in your use of English than before. The contents in the blog can be roughly divided into four parts. They are typing, book reviews, essays and free-writing.
Next, I describe about Writing Ⅲ in 1st semester. Students are required to write over 10,000 words in the semester. Typing homework should be done 15 times and book reviews more than 18. I recommend to start to work these assignments as early as possible. If the works remain in the end of the semester, exams will be coming at the same time. It is really hard to the works, and there’s no time to study for exams.
