KGUW_3-4_13-14: Reflections from §1C


Insights for students
taking Writing III and IV
next year (2014-15)


Students who have taken part in Writing IV, section 1C, are to post reflections based on their experience this year in comments on this post, for the benefit of their successors next year. The presentation below outlines the short essay writing task calling for current students to prepare, compose, and post their reflections in comments on this post.

  1. I talk about writing classes in this year. I had many things to do, and learned many things in these classes. And also, I could enjoy activities. Blog activities were wonderful. I could know about English in these classes.

    First of all, I talk about essays and essay prepares. I wrote many essays in this year. Essay prepares were very important. I wrote prepares correctly to make good essays. I wanted to make very long essays, so I tried to write a lot of words. My favorite essay is My Favorite Places. I could write many words. I think that I can write better essays than last year.

    Next, I talk about book reviews and bibliographies. I wrote 19 reviews in the fall term. I wrote many reviews of Sims, Lesley. I like his books. I wrote many book reviews, so I became a fun of English books. When I wrote book reviews, I tried to write my feeling when I read that books. I tried to be able to recommend English books. Bibliography was important. When I check my bibliography, I can think back my books.

    Next, I talk about comments. I gave a lot of comments, and got them. When I gave comments, I wrote reflections, praises, questions, and suggestions. When I got comments from my classmates, I was very happy. I enjoyed this communication system.

    Next, I talk about my portfolio. I wrote my portfolio correctly. When I check my portfolio, I can think back my works of writing classes. There is a lot of information. For example, there are essays, book reviews, writing words, and so on. I thought words were important. I wrote very long writings. When I counted my words, I was happy.

    I really enjoy writing classes. I love my blog. When I used my blog, I could communicate with my classmates. And also, I could learn English well. I want to continue my blog activities. I love writing classes!!

  2. First of all, I want to write about essay prep and proper. When I write essay, I always needed to make Essay prep. To make them, I always tried to write more clearly. It was very good work for me because the prep helps me to write great essays. Writhing essay prep is very important thing to do good work at writhing essays.

    Making essay was very difficult. The most difficult thing at writing essay was joint essay. To combine other student’s opinion was very difficult. To make a good essay, so I talked with them and made outline before we start to work. It was very good for making joint essays.

    I wrote more than 20 book reviews at writing Ⅲ and Ⅳ classes. To write good book reviews, I read a book more than three times to write good book reviews. When I wrote a book, I thought that how should I tell about the book and How explain about the book. Then I decided to write good point and bad point. As you know there are not always good books. Sometimes, you find a book is worst one. Then I thought I could write not only good point but also bad point. Then I tried to write bad point too. It may good point to write nice book reviews.


    After we; students in this class wrote essays, we gave comments each other. At the first comment, we only gave a comment; good job and nice essay. However it was changed. We became to write good points, bad points, and recommends for the essays. It has great meaning. To give many advice, he or she tried to write the next essay think about the given advices. It may have great meaning peer-to-peer commentary.


    Portfolios were unlike thing at this class because I needed to count every blog posts and words and take more rime. I didn’t like that. However, I like to see number; how many words and how many posts did I wrote by making my portfolio every the end of the month. I thought it is kind of my grade transcript. To write more words than last month, I saw the portfolios and tried hard to write free writing, book reviews, and essays.


    At this writing class, I learned how to make good essay in English and the way to type many words faster. To make many writing posts, I got skills to make good English writing. Moreover, to use PC everyday helped me to type faster than before.

  3. I think that this class was good. First, I didn’t read many books written in English if this class wasn’t. I didn’t know that there are many English books in KGU library. It was difficult for me to write book reviews first, but I gradually became to be able to write them. Therefore I want students who take part in Writing next year to write book reviews.

    Next, I wrote essay for the first time this year. I didn’t come up with writing contents, so it was hard for me. However, if I began to write essay, I became to write many things. I wrote essay, so I think my vocabrary increased. However, I think a time limit for writing essay was short, so you should postpone a time limit for approxim about one week because it was hard for me to write essay. I wrote about language learning. I wrote many sentences. I usually cannot write much, but I could write many things, so it was surprised for me. I think there are contents to be able to write essay easily even if students who was not able to write essay like me. Therefore I want students who take part in Writing next year to write essay.

    Finally, I think Essay prep. needs because I can write essay easily. I was trabled with contents to write essay. I took much time it. However, I think by onesely, and I think that it is good to show ideas. I think it is important in the future. Therefore this class is nesessary for students who take part in Writing next year.

  4. I learned many things in this year by taking this class. At first, I wrote some essays. Writing essay was homework, so it was hard for me to do it. But I tried to wite long essay. I wrote six esays at all. So I tried to wite long blog little by little. Mr Beaufait gave me advice to improve my essay. Thanks to it, my essay was can be good essay. I could wite longer essay. Also many classmates gave me some comments. They were good use of my essay when I rewrite essay. Ofcause reciveing comment from classmates is glad for me. But also I feel fun to read classmates’s essay and get comments. I found new thinking by reading their essay. Writind essay was good opprtunitie for me.

    Next is Book reviews. I read many books for write book reviews. At first, I didn’t like reading book. But little by little, I like reading books. In spring semester, I read book which easy to read (level 1~3). But I tried reading higher level book. Thanks to it, I could read long book. I learned English grammar, new words by reading books.

    Next is blog. I posted many blogs. It was involved dairy blog, essay, book reviews, etc… Especially, I enjoyed to write dairy blog. I wrote about my pet, my favorite things, my memories, etc… Also I posted many photos. Posting was fun but I enjoyed reading classmates blog. I could see their activities. Also I sent some comments to their blog. Sending comments each other is interesting too.

    At final, I uesd computer to do those things. So I learned how to using computer too in this class. Computer is very convenient and usefull. But using computer is difficult too. At first I think using computer is difficult but I could understand about it little by little. Using computer will be need in the future. So I think I have to practice harder using computer. I want to do trping keyboard faster. I will do my best from now on too with making good use of learned in this class.

  5. I write about Blog post of this year. First, I posted some essays. I wrote about various things. Then, I gathered my experiments and wrote about it. I always wrote 6 paragraph. When I finished to write essays, I rewrited it. I often misstaked spelling.

    Second, I posted some Book reviews. I selected books which are easy to read. These books were so interesting because it wrote about various things. For example, animals and fairy tales, etc. I could know to read books about culture of countries. I often wrote about my thinking and my experience on Book reviews.

    I commented on classmates blogs. A lot of classmates wrote many words. Some classmates posted on my blogs sometimes. I liked to read comments from classmates because there were interesting comments.

    I could write about many books. I think I did my best about Books reviews. I didn’t like Books reviews at first, but I like it now. There are some not finished post. I finished 15000 words, but I think comments are too few.

  6. I have worked a lot in Writing III and IV. I will talk about six points of what I have worked in the class. First, I will talk about essay. I have prepared before writing an essay, and it is an Essay prep. I think it is important for me, because I can write many cantents in an essay. If I don’t prepare before writing essay, I can’t write a content very well. Also I can notice a miss of the essay. It is good point of essay prep. I think about a content again after I wrote an essay prep. Writing a content as much as possible, and then you can write a good essay. And I will talk about essay. Essay is hard work, because I have to write most of all essays in a week. It is difficult, also it has many important points what I write. Most difficult point is third person’s view point. I used it when I write essay, and it is hard for me. It is important what prepare before writing an essay.

    Second, I will talk about Book reviews. I think it is most hard work in Writing class. I have read many books in the class. Reading a book is easy, but writing a book review is difficult. I can’t write many paragraphs at first, because I don’t know about what I write in a book review. However I read many classmate’s book reviews, so I noticed some points of book reviews. I wrote reviews about some stories that I devided. It is good for me, also I can write many paragraphs in a book review. Moreover I think that the author’s name is difficult. I have to make the Bibliography in Writing class. It is reference of book. Of cource, author’s neme is one of them. However I don’t know a family name and given name. I missed it many times, so I thought that is difficul point of writing book reviews.

    Third, I will talk about posts on topics of choice. I have write many posts in Writing class. It was hard for me, also I have write many contents of me. I have to write many posts in Writing class. Maybe I wrote at least five posts in a week. There are many contents around me, but Writing blog posts every day is hard. So I often prepared a post when I have a free time. It is good idea, I think. So I have write many blog posts in the class. It was good point of Portfolios too. I used links in these posts. It is good for explain about content of blog posts. It is important that I use some functions as much as possible, I think.

  7. Through Writing classes, we’ve learned a lot of things. We had essay prep. & essays proper, book reviews & bibliographies, peer-to-peer commentary, and portfolios of our work. We have been busy because of these tasks, but these tasks gave us a lot of opportunities.

    For essay prep. & essays, we tried free-writing, mind-mapping, outlining, and drafting. Free-writing is lots of fun because we can write about anything topic. We usually tried mind-mapping first. This taught us a lot of ideas for our essays. After mind-mapping, we decided how to organize our essays, and then tried writing essay prep.. After this, there was peer-to-peer commentary. Thanks to our classmates, we could rewrite better essays. For me, these comments taught me many things, so I tried to rewrite twice. I wrote second essay longer than first essay, of course, last essay was the longest of the three. Second essay was better than first essay, and last essay was the best of all. Through these process, best essay has come.

    For book reviews, we tried reading English books, and wrote quotations, summaries, opinions, and recommendations in our reviews. For this task, we went to library and borrowed some books, which is written in English. After reading a book, we reviewed about it. Through this task, we tried to read English books for the first time. For me, this gave me a lot of opportunities. Until this year, I have never read English books, so this was good. At first, reading English books is difficult for me, but I found reading English books is a lot of fun. I want to continue in the future.

    For peer-to-peer commentary, it reminds us of rules of comments. When we comment on our classmates’ posts, we tried to comment with praise, advice, agreement, and so on about articles. It was good for me to care these points. When I received comments, I was pleased, so I tried to comment on classmates’ and peers’ blogs as many as possible. Reading their articles was so interesting because they wrote about a lot of things. Reading their posts taught me a lot of things, so I liked it.

    In this year, I’ve learned a lot of things through Writing classes though these tasks were very hard. These experiences will help me in the future.

  8. KGUW_3-4_13-14: Reflections from §1C

    I had a lot of experiences in Writing Ⅲ-Ⅳ this year. I think it was composed by my homework. In Writing class, we had a lot of homework almost everyday. We have our own blogs, so we should post essays, essay preps, book reviews, and free-writing. It was hard for me to do them everyday, but thanks to them, I could improve my skills of typing, writing, and grammar.

    It was needed for us to write a lot of words for essay prep and essays, so it was hard. I couldn’t think what to write sometimes. My classmates prepared for essay writing well, so I started to think something around me. I thought it was easier to write if it was familiar to me, so I could try writing many words in essays.

    I think it was not so tired to do book reviews. I like to reading books, so it was interesting to read books of a lot of kinds. I prefer fairy tales to history, mystery, and non-fiction, because almost of them ends happily. My favorite book which I read and reviewed was “Cinderella.” It was the most famous story of fairy tales. Since I did book reviews, I became to think reading books is funny more. Looking my bibliographies, you’ll find what kind I like and I read. I developed my bibliography every time I did book reviews.

    I had a lot of comments on my blog posts from my classmates. Thinking back on the frequency, quantity, and the qualities of comments, they checked their own blogs each other well. They noticed their mistakes of grammar and writing essays, so we were told them on their comments. I thought I could improve my essays and posts thanks to comments, because I noticed after checking their comments. However, I was given comments of praise sometimes. When I saw them, I felt happy very much. On the other hand, I commented my classmates’ blogs and I told there were mistakes and this post was good. I questioned and I suggested “why don’t you do ~?” sometimes.

    Next, I will think back on my portfolios. It is due to every month, so it is shown how many words you wrote, how many you posted, and how many book reviews you did last month. When I saw that and I felt I didn’t do my homework and study enough last month, I thought I would try to improve this month absolutely. It was important for me to see and fix my portfolio.

    Through this year and I took Writing class, I could improve my skills which needed Writing. In Writing class, I was told a lot of things which can be used in the future. If I become graduating the university and a socialist, I never forget what I experienced and learned in this class this year. I thank to Mr.PB very much.

  9. I will talk about writing classes in this year.

    I wrote books reviews hard in 1 semester. At first, I felt book reviews are hard and difficult. In especially, the most difficult was summaries, because I had to understand book’s story in detail, so I took a lot of times. And I had to write my opinions and references. I read pictures books of England and London.

    I felt books reviews are fun in 2 semester, because I could read English books in short time. The books which I read were very interesting, so I recommend to these English books. Basically, I read pictures books of England and London, because these are my favorite books. I could write books review in short time in 2 semester.

    I wrote Essay prep. in 1 semester and 2 semester. I made Mind- mapping in 1 semester for the first time. At first, I felt it is hard. In 1 semester, I wrote free writing only a bit, but I wrote a lot of free writing in 2 semester. Last summer, I went to Minnesota, so I wrote Minnesota’s diary. Free writing was the funnest for me, because I could write about various things.

    I wrote essays a lot. I wrote Letters to hosts and University life in 1 semester. It was hard for me, but I could become to write long essays.I wrote Language Learning, Favorite places and Learning computers in 2 semester. I have to write more than 600 words. My friends commented my essays, so I was happy.

  10. I posted some on bllog this year. I wrote essays, essay prep, book reviews,portfolios, and movie review. I introduce them.

    Essays, I can study many words this year. My classmate essay is good essay. They posted many words. And they wrote grammar better than mein essays. Thier essay prep is easy look for me. I made to write some topic when I write essay. I chosed different words. And I looking for words in dictionary.

    Book review, I chosed to fit my level books. Bibliographies, I can become to write right better than before. I understand what I should do. But I mistake. I looking for dictionary not know words when I review books. And I explain this book story.

    Peer to peer commentary, I write many words better than spring trem. And I was posted commentary by other classmate. I think to use good grammar.

    Portfolios, I write mumber essay, book review and words. I write many words January. I think the best book review 19th. I think the best essay thrid c essay. I write many words. And I think words.

  11. Essay prep. was started for mind-mapping every time. To write that is most important because we will write essay more easily. Then we should have wide images, and write anything. Mind- mapping decide whether we can make good essay or bad essay. After we make mind-mapping, we can start writing.

    We wrote some essays in this semester. First we wote letter fo hosts. It was excitied essay for me becasue I had paln to go the United States and homestay. Actually I use this essay for write my host. Second we wrote about university life. It was good oppotunity to rethink about our university. And to read other students essay, I could know what they were thinking. Third we wrote about language learning. Students who this class like English everyone maybe, so I think it was good topic. Forth we wrote about favorite place. I wote my favorite, so when I was told my teacher about the way to writing essay, it was difficult to correct the content as essay. But it was good practice to write graduation essay. Last, we wrote about learning with comouters. We have more chance to touch computers, so I could write this essay easy. We are learning with computer every day and practice typing, the way to writing, the way to use computer, use English Central and practice pronounceation, sent mails and watch Youtube. Learning computer is nessesary for us and we might be use computers in the future, so It was good topic too.

    Writing instruntion about Portfolios was difficult for me because I didn’t know what should I write but there were good instructions. It were semior’s blogs. I was helped and I really apriciate to them. We wrote many essays, book reviews, free- writing, and dairy, so counting word was interesting. I was suffer from 15000 words but I think that was good experience and that exoerience is useful in our future.

    Book review was sometimes interesting but sometimes made me tired. I chose very tiny book because I couldn’t read fast. I was intesested in Japanese tale in English, so I like Peach Boy. The difficult things about book review were write about my opinion. I often read easy book, so sometimes I didn’t have any idea about book. I know that was bad things because I didn’t think anything during reading that book. It was my bad point. Bibliographies was a little tired for me. I didn’t know why I should write like that.

    Comment on other student’s blog was fun because they write interest dairy and there were some medias. But reading essay on other student’s blog was hard and difficult to think about question, reflection, suggestion. Think abput praise was easy because there were many good point friend’s essay and I could find that. And I could friend’s oppinion, so comment each other was very good to improve to writing skill and changes our opinions.

  12. I learned many things in the writing class. I have never written reviews, so I didn’t know how to write them at first. In addition, it was difficult for me to write summaries and opinions in particular when I wrote reviews. I don’t have to write storys’ end, but I have to write summaries which other people want to read books. I often pay attention to write books’ summaries which other people want to read books if they read my summaries, but I hardly wirte my opinions. My opinions are shorter than my summaries, and I wrote similar sentences after writing summaries. If I have a chance which I write reviews, I want to write my opinion exactly.

    I thought taht writing essays were hardest homework in this class becuase I have to wrtite many words. I didn’t hit upon good idea for essays, so it takes many times to write essays. However, I was fun when I wrote essays with my friends because my friends hit upon ideas which I didn’t hit upon. I have to write many words more when I write essays with friends, but I thought I could know their good points. After I wrote essays many times, I thought that I came to write things in detail. I thought that if I didn’t have this class, I didn’t come to write many words, and I didn’t have a chance which I write many sentences. I want to pay attention to other things which is grammar and so on when I will write sentences.

    I often wrote comments at first, and I often read other people’s blog. However, I didn’t came to write comments because I afford to read other people’s blog in the latter half of 2nd semester. Also, it is difficult for me to write comments too because I have to find other people’s writing questions, reflections, and so on, but I thought that I could know other people’s good points if I read other people’s writing and write comments. I want to read other peolpe’s writing more, and I introduces their good points for my writing from now on.

  13. In this and last year, we posted a lot of posts. We posted Essay prep, Essays, Book reviews, Bibliography and Porfolios. These were very hard for me, but I could how to write to understand for people. I want to introduce these in turn.

    Essay prep help us, and it is preparatin for essays. There is mind-map in essay prep. This is the things which we think about something have to write main post. For example, please think about college. What do you think? Maybe, you will think study, friends, teacher, class, bakery and cafeteria. In this time, you have to spred the words. For example, what’s kind of class do you have? You have write detail. This is very difficult, but if you can write detail you will be helped by this. We were helped by mind-map when we write essays. When students write essays we can image what they write about. This is very good thing.

    In Essay, student wrote many essays during spring semester and fall semester. For example, My favorite places, Letters to host family, Movie reviews, Language learning, University life, and Learning with computers. To write English is very difficult. Students could explain by Japanese, but students couldn’t express by English, but students learned by essays. After students wrote essays, another students read essays in writing class, and everyone have to comments. For example, praise, question, reflection and suggestion. These cooments helped students, because when students write next essays, they know to pay attention points.

    Students have to read 15 books in spring semester, and 18 books in fall semester. I think most people were reading USBORNE series. These books were very easy to understand, and so funny books. In book reviews, students read book, and their have to write favorite sentence at the first, and thier’s impression in the blog. By reading books student could many expression and grammer maybe.

    After students wrote book reviews, they have to write name, year, country, book’s title and publishing company in bibliography. They have to write movie review same way.

    Portfoio is statistics. If you look this page, you will be able to introduction, showcase, selection,self-assesmentsand explanations. This is very convenience page I think, becasue you will be able to know everything which they wrote something. Also, you will be able to know books which they read. What is called peocess condition.

  14. I learned about many things in Writing Ⅲ, Ⅳ for a year. I reflect about essay prep., essays, portfolios, book reviews and peer-to-peer commentary.

    I wrote some essay prep.. First I make mind-map to make my clear thinking about essay prep.. Based on the mind-map, I wrote essay prep.. I wrote it not stopping my hands, wrote all what I think. After I finish to write all sentences, I rewrite it to correct sentences. And I check spell mis.

    Based on essay prep. I wtote essays. I rewrite it correctly, more than 5 sentenses each paragraphs, more than about 500 wards, more than 7 paragraphs and to be more good essays.

    I read many books for book reviews. I read same piblisher books and famouse story, so it is many types of books. I reviewed it to write my favorite esntense, intorodction of the book and my impressions. My bibliographies developed to read various type of books and writer.

    I commented on my peers posts like free-writing, essays and book reviews. I comment my impressions, questions and my opinions about them posts. Most of my comment is impressions and questions. But I sometimes commented my opinions to my peers know them mistaken.

    When I posted book reviews or essays, I recorded it on my portfolios. I can know my records seeing portfolios. For example, dates I wrote, titles of its, words count, comments and links. So I can reflect my book reviews and eaasys easily.
